Our world abounds with information and misinformation. Not only are facts much more available, opinions parading as facts are thrown at us too. It can be hard to know what to believe at times when whole groups of experts are split on supposedly scientific or factual issues.
People are less trusting of news reports as well, realising that some stories are virtually made up, to support some agenda or other.
The greatest battleground over what to believe is focused on God and God’s Word. Right from the start of human history our enemy, the devil, challenged what God said.
“The serpent said to the woman, Has God really said, You must not eat of every tree of the garden?” Genesis 3:1
Today there are multiple voices ready to discredit the Bible or scoff at spiritual things. Our secular culture allows just about anything, except committed living by the Word of God. Live that way and the whole culture will think you are weird.
As one of God’s children, should you doubt your Father’s word? As one who relies on Jesus Christ for salvation, should you elevate your own ideas over God’s? As one who believes God speaks the truth, should you live in doubt about what God has said?
We can confidently live by every word that comes from the mouth of God, If God Speaks Truth.
“It is written, Man is not to live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
So the critical question that challenges your heart is, “Can God be trusted to tell the truth?”
So many voices are ready to raise doubt about God’s Word, or to scoff at things revealed in the Bible. Your heart then becomes a battleground between all the world’s attacks on God and your faith in God.
Many Christians shrink from such a battle. One way they do that is to decide that God is true in regard to spiritual things, like heaven and forgiveness of sins. But when it comes to everything else, they do what the culture tells them. That way they hope to keep in good with God and also with their secular friends, work associates, and the general culture around them.
In private matters of faith they are committed to God. They worship God on Sunday and read their Bible. But in the marketplace they live just like everyone else.
This is compromise. It seems convenient but it is dangerous. It is dangerous because it shuts down a person’s testimony of faith in Christ. If we deny Christ then God will deny us as His child too.
“Everyone who confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my father in heaven. Whoever denies me before men, I will also deny him before my father in heaven.” Matthew 10:32,33
Our faith in Christ and our relationship with God are not sidelines to our existence, but the very core of our life. We ‘live by faith’ and we are God’s child in church and in every other place we go.
“The righteous live by faith.” Galatians 3:11
“Beloved, right now are we the sons of God” 1John 3:2
One of the enemy’s strategies is to trap you with fear of rejection and scorn. Fear brings you into slavery, so the enemy ties you up with concern about the way others will think of you. That’s called the ‘fear of man’, including the fear of people’s rebuke or rejection. It is a trap that will take hold of you as surely as a clamp around the foot of an animal.
“The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord will be safe.” Proverbs 29:25
If this relates to you, I urge you to see that you are snared. Choose to take your stand for God, so God will take His stand for you.
Another problem you will face is that you will shrink from standing on God’s Word and trusting God to come through for you. If God Speaks Truth then God’s Word can be fully trusted. You trust the Word of God for your salvation, so why doubt God’s Word for the other things it says?
This is where a life of faith really gets going. When the Spirit of God prompts us to rely on a promise from God we have opportunity to engage with the Truth of God’s Word in a powerful way. If God Speaks Truth then we can confidently step out on God’s promise and know that God will come through for us. That’s when our faith takes wings and lifts us into the things God has for us.
And even when things don’t work out as we expect, we know that by taking a step of faith we have delighted God, because faith is the only thing that pleases God.
“Without faith it is impossible to please God” Hebrews 11:6
If God Speaks Truth then we can be assured of many wonderful things, such as:
“All things work together for good to them that love the Lord” Romans 8:28
“The angel of the Lord camps around those who fear God and delivers them.” Psalm 34:7
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13
“No weapon created against you will succeed” Psalm 54:17
“God will never leave us or forsake us” Hebrews 13:5
“Nothing will separate us from the love of God” Romans 8:39
Do you believe God Speaks Truth? You have trusted God for your salvation, so you must trust God to be true. So why would you hold back from trusting God for all the things He says?
Trusting God to be true is the starting block for your life of faith. Stand firmly on that starting point and agree in your heart that God is true and speaks only truth. Then let the Spirit of God prompt truths from God’s Word that God wants you to step into. As you step off the starting block you take a step of faith and are on your way in the journey of living by faith.
When it comes to all the other voices seeking to pull you away from trust in God, choose to believe that God is true and speaks the truth.
“Let God be true but every man a liar.” Romans 3:4
And enjoy the glorious world of faith-filled living that is yours when you know with all confidence that God Speaks Truth.
